Honda CR-V Generations

Honda CR-V 1995 (First Generation)

The Honda CR-V 1995 was the first-ever CR-V released by Honda which was built on the Honda Civic platform but with an SUV design. The Honda CR-V 1995 was best known for having double wishbone suspension in all four of its corners as well as having a spare tyre on its tailgate. The first generation Honda CR-V only had one trim level but was made available in 2WD and 4WD versions and also came in either automatic or manual transmission. Honda CR-V 2001 (Second Generation)

The Honda CR-V 2001 was the second edition of the CR-V to be released. The second generation CR-V maintained its signature spare tyre on its tailgate but changed the double wishbone suspension to be fitted to only the rear of the car while the front double wishbone had been replaced with MacPherson struts. The biggest advancement that the Honda CR-V 2001 received was the introduction of the VTEC. The Honda CR-V 2001 was offered in low specification and high specification variants and also came in either automatic or manual transmission. The 2001 CR-V had also offered a diesel option. Honda CR-V 2006 (Third Generation)

The Honda CR-V 2006 started its sales in late 2006 but was only officially launched in early 2007. The third generation Honda CR-V featured significant changes to its exterior, one of which was the removal of the spare tyre which was mounted on the rear door. The side-opening rear door had also been redesigned to a rear liftgate instead. The third generation of the CR-V had only automatic transmission. The Honda CR-V 2006 was only launched in Malaysia in 2007 and only one powertrain was introduced. Below are the Honda CR-V 2006 specifications:

Honda CR-V 2011 (Fourth Generation)

The Honda CR-V 2011 was only launched in Malaysia in 2013 with three variants - 2.0L 2WD, 2.0L 4WD and 2.4L 4WD. All variants are equipped with automatic transmission. The third generation CR-V was available in five colours - Twilight Blue Metallic, Taffeta White, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl and Polished Metal. The 2.4L 4WD variant was only released later in the year and it offered the same colours with the 2.0L variants with the exception of the Polished Metal being replaced with the Modern Steel Metallic instead. The Honda CR-V 2011 version had received significant technological advancements in terms of the transformation to automation for several functions as well as the introduction of the eco-mode for fuel efficiency. Honda CR-V 2016 (Fifth Generation)

The Honda CR-V 2016 is the fifth generation of the CR-V and the model that is currently for sale in Malaysia. Only the five-seater variant of the fifth generation Honda CR-V was introduced in Malaysia and came in four variants - 2.0L 2WD, 1.5L Turbo 2WD, 1.5L Turbo 4WD and 1.5L Turbo Premium 2WD. In 2021, a new variant, the Honda CR-V Black Edition was introduced in Crystal Black Pearl colour which maintained 1.5L TC-P 2WD specs but design-wise was changed to an overall dark theme. As of today, Honda Malaysia only offers the CR-V in four variants - 2.0L 2WD, 1.5L TC-P 2WD, 1.5L TC-P 4WD and Black Edition.

The sixth generation of the Honda CR-V was launched in the US market in 2022. According to Honda Malaysia, the sixth generation CR-V is part of the four models it plans to launch in 2023, though there has been no fixed date as of October 2023. In Thailand, the Honda CR-V is offered in two powertrains which may potentially be offered in Malaysia as well - 1.5L Turbo and Hybrid.
