How do I register?

Why should I verify my email address after my registration?

After you have registered with Carlist.my, you will receive a welcome email with an email verification link. You will need to click on this link to complete the registration. This is to ensure that the email address which you have provided is valid and working; and that you are the holder of this email account. Without verification of your email address, you will not be able to access your account.

I’ve registered with Carlist.my and provided a valid email address. However, I did not receive any activation email. What should I do?

If you are using a web-based email service such as Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo Mail, please ensure that the filters do not mark our emails as spam. Please check the "Junk Email", “Spam” or "Bulk" mailbox.

Alternatively, you can activate it manually by sending your registration info (username, email and telephone number) to enquiries@carlist.my and our team will be more than happy to assist you to activate your account.

How do I know if my email address has been verified?

Upon registration, you will receive an email to verify your email address. Once you have clicked on the verification link found in the email, you will be redirected to a web page confirming your email address.

Do I have to fill out all the information in my member’s profile?

We strongly advise you to complete your profile so that other members can get to know your contact details when they are interested in your car.

What does it mean to be a Verified Seller?

A Verified Seller has provided additional evidence of their identity to Carlist.my. Once a seller is verified, it increases their creditability with other buyers and sellers on Carlist.my because most buyers prefer to do business with verified sellers. This higher level of verification is designed to reduce fraudulent or counterfeit, with the results that all Carlist.my users will be able to use our service with more confidence.

What are the benefits of being a Verified Seller?

Once a seller has been verified, the 'Verified Seller' badge appears next to their name wherever it appears on the Carlist.my website, including the profile page. At a single glance, potential buyers will see that your identity has been verified by Carlist.my which builds more trust and confidence. This will make buyers feel more comfortable in buying a car from you, resulting in more sales.

Why does Carlist.my ask sellers to become verified?

Verification helps increase trust and safety in our community. Buyers can feel more confident doing business with Verified Sellers, who are more likely to be legitimate and trustworthy.

Is verification a requirement?

The requirement of verification varies from different account type and account registration date as follows:

• If you have registered a company account on www.Carlist.my on or after 20th July 2012, you are required to provide additional evidence of your identity to Carlist.my for verification purposes. Your registered account will be automatically deleted if you fail to do so within 30 days of your account registration.
• If you have registered a sales agent account on www.Carlist.my on or after 27th August 2012, you are required to provide additional evidence of your identity to Carlist.my for verification purposes. Your registered account will be automatically deleted if you fail to do so within 30 days of your account registration.
• Otherwise, it is not a compulsory to verify your account but it is generally a good idea as it will enhance your reputation as a seller.

How do I become a Verified Seller?

The verification process involves verifying your identity using following documents:

How much does it cost to become a Verified Seller?

The verification process is free of charge.

Do I need to verify my account if I am a premium user?

A premium user will have to go through verification process in order to become a Verified Seller. It is not a compulsory to verify your account but it is generally a good idea as it will enhance your reputation as a seller.

I can't provide a copy of my identity as it is confidential information. What should I do?

Carlist.my is using a copy of your identity for verification purposes only. We will not disclose this information to any third party. You may also send a 'crossed' copy of your identity, stated as being for Carlist.my account verification purposes only (see below).

I have registered a company account, but I really don't want to submit a copy of Borang 9 for verification. Is there any other option if I want to become a Verified Seller?

You may opt to change your account type to sales agent instead of company and submit a copy of your IC for our verification purposes.

Are there any charges to post a listing on Carlist.my?

Depending on your account type, there’s a limit of how many car listings you can post.

How do I post a car listing?

How long does it take for my listing to be published?

It takes up to 24 hours for the listing to be published.

What are Carlist.my listing guidelines?

Carlist.my requires its members to adhere to its listing. Any member who fails to comply with the guidelines listed below would be dealt with a rejection for the car listing or suspension of his or her Carlist.my membership.

• Improper language: Foul, obscene, offensive, tasteless or otherwise inappropriate language or images in your member profile or listings are not allowed.
• Sexual material: No nudity, sexually offensive or pornographic images/photos/graphics/video/audio will be tolerated.
• Flaming content: You may not list content that is defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, racist, discriminating or otherwise objectionable.
• Illegal material: Listings containing illegal material or promoting products and/or services deemed to be illegal or unethical will not be allowed.
• Copyright & intellectual property: Members should not create listings which may contain materials protected by copyright and intellectual property laws without prior permission from the owner(s).
• Misleading information: No listings that contain false, deceptive, misleading or deceitful materials will be tolerated.
• Irrelevant categories: Listings listed in inappropriate categories will be removed.
• Duplicate Listings: Listings that are duplicative or similar to an existing one (listed by the same user) in the same sub-category are not allowed. Posting the same or similar content repeatedly or otherwise listing an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our listings is also not allowed.

Is there a character limit for each car listing?

Yes, the ad title is limited to 255 characters while the limit for description is 3,000 characters.

I don't have a specific price for the car I offer. What should I put for price?

It is advisable to put a price for the car to put your car on the competitive side because Carlist.my offers car buyers with genuine price tag for possibly all the cars.

Are there any charges to upload images in a listing?

No, it is absolute free.

How many images can be uploaded into each car listing?

You may upload up to 21 images per car listing.

What are the advantages of adding images into a post?

Statistics have shown that car buyers prefer to browse listings with images from the search results page. So to get more buyers or responses to your ad, please add as many images as you can that shows the current condition of the car.

What types of images files can I upload?

Images must be in one of the following accepted formats: JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg), GIF (.gif), PNG (.png), or BMP (.bmp). Please keep the file size to 4MB or less.

What types of images are forbidden?

Photos, images or graphics that are protected by copyright and intellectual property laws or contain abusive, nude, obscene, sexual or otherwise materials deemed offensive to others are not permitted on Carlist.my.

I have problem uploading pictures, what should I do?

The file size of your picture is over 4MB.
  - Try to resize the picture to a smaller file size (less than 4 MB).

The filename of your picture contains character like apostrophe (') or dot (.).
  - Rename the file to remove the special character(s).

You're adding more than 8 pictures.
  - Remove the previous picture(s) if you want to replace with the new picture(s).

If none of the above steps work, you may try again using another browser.

May I upload a map of my location in my car advertisement page?

Yes, you can upload it as one of the photo for the car advertisement. You can also submit the map image under your profile. You can update your location information at your edit information page.

Can I preview the listing before it is posted on the website?

No, but you can always find the listing in your member’s profile page and edit it anytime.

How will I know if my post has been rejected?

If your post has been rejected, you will receive an e-mail explaining the reason. You can also click on the status of the rejected listing to view the explanation message.

Why was my post rejected?

Posts may get deactivated if it violates any of the rules listed under Carlist.my Listing Guidelines. Carlist.my also reserves the right to investigate the IP address, Internet Service Provider, location and the identity of any offenders.

Will I get a unique URL for my post?

Every used car, new car or accessory listing will have its own unique Reference ID (Ref ID). Once your car is listed on Carlist.my, it will have a unique URL (e.g.-- http://www.carlist.my/used-cars/96151/). This URL will links directly to your listing page. Feel free to share this link with your friends to help selling your car.

How can I edit my car details/images once they have been submitted?

How long does a car listing last on Carlist.my?

For used cars, your listing will be on our site for 60 days from the day you posted. You also have the option to extend it up to 120 days. For new cars, your listing will be on our site for 120 days.

How do I extend my car listing?

You can only extend your used car listing 15 days before the "Expiry Date" of the listing. Each extension will add another 30 days onto the expiry date. You can extend a listing for twice, up to a total of 120 days. To extend your listings:

I’m selling my car to someone personally, how do I change the ownership?

If you are selling your car personally then you need to go through General JPJ (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan) to transfer car ownership.
Steps are as follow:

• Collect the forms for transfer. Forms needed are JPJK3, TM-1, TM-AB. Forms can be downloaded from the JPJ website http://portal.jpj.gov.my
• Photocopy both buyer and seller IC.
• After all forms have been filled completely, proceed to Puspakom for mandatory inspection for 2nd hand vehicles. Get the approval letter.
• Go to JPJ (BOTH OWNER and BUYER MUST BE THERE) and submit all the forms together with car original registration card and also new buyer insurance cover note. Document required are:
  • Original and copy of registration certificate (JPJK2)
  • Borang JPJK3 (2 copies)
  • Copies of identity cards of registered owner/buyer/witnesses/business registration certificate (Form 9, 44 and 49)
  • Insurance cover note/certificate of new owner
  • Notice of release of ownership claim (registered owner and notice of ownership claim (new owner) if applicable)
  • Original vehicle inspection report (B2) (imported vehicle)
  • Original and copy of Commercial Vehicle License for new owner (except decontrolled)
• Pay the settled fees.
• Wait for the process and collect the transferred ownership of car registration card.

I'm selling my car to second hand car dealer, how to process transaction?

• Owner and second hand car dealer agree in the price and a deal has been made.
• Down payment fee is paid by dealer and information such as selling price, down payment and balance should be provided at the same time.
• Seller and 2nd hand car dealer meet up at JPJ to complete ""Penyaksian Pengesahan identiti Pemunya Berdaftar"". The document is required by JPJ to certify that the actual owner of the car agree on the sales.
• After JPJ process has been completed, owner handover the registration document of the car and obtain bank draft cheque for payment of remaining balance owed at the same time. Arrangement with dealer to get cash or direct deposit to savings account is possible.
• For final precaution, prepare letter of indemnity for the 2nd hand car dealer to sign, which they duly obliged.

Do I need a lawyer to change the ownership of the car?

You do not need a lawyer. Transfer of ownership only involves car owner, car buyer and JPJ.

I want to sell the car which still has insurance attached to it. When should I remove the insurance?

It is advisable to terminate your car insurance only after you handover the car to the buyer to avoid any complications before handing over the car.

How to sell old car as scrap metal?

You should unregister your car at JPJ. Then send your car to a scrap iron dealer.

I am a foreigner who is a member of MM2H (Malaysia My Second Home) programme and have a car which has been exempted from taxes, how do I sell my car?

• Car will be subjected to repayment of duty/tax exempted according to prevailing market price, which can be carried out in any nearest customs. Please obtain receipt for payment made.
• Go to the nearest State Road Transport Department (JPJ) to apply for ownership transfer of car to be sold personally. You would need to do the following:
  Bring related documents: passport, vehicle registration certificate or car registration.
  • Fill up K3 Form for ownership transfer of car.
  • Attach Insurance Cover Note of car.
  • Pay transfer fee at counter.
  • Submit all the above to the JPJ's counter for car ownership transfer.
  • Counter staff will inform you when approval will be given (normally not more than 7 working days with complete documentation).
  • JPJ will endorse ownership transfer to new party.
