All-New 2015 Audi Q7 Coming To Malaysia In November, ROI Site Now Online

The all-new Audi Q7 looks set to make its debut in Malaysia this November 2015 with the advent of a “registration of interest” site that interested parties can now visit here. Exact details pertaining to the specifications of the second-generation Audi Q7 we will receive, which made its global debut earlier in December 2014, weren't revealed on the website however.

Riding on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform, the Q7 features extensive application of aluminium and high-strength steel in its construction, including parts of the bodywork like the doors, hood, fenders, and rear hatch. The new platform sees the Q7 shrink by 38mm in length and 15mm in width but in return, promises more leg room and head room as well.

By employing lightweight materials in its construction, the Q7 undergoes a significant weight loss compared to its predecessor – 325kg lighter to say the least, in its 3.0 TDI variant, tipping the scales at 1,995kg.

As for powertrains, there are four engine options available to the Audi Q7 during its global debut that includes two 3.0-litre TDI V6 diesel engine in two states of tune (272hp/600Nm and 218hp/500Nm), a sole 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine with 333hp and 440Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre TFSI four-cylinder petrol engine with 252hp and 370Nm of torque. An eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive system is standard for all the engine listed above.

During this year’s Shanghai Motor Show, Audi introduced a petrol hybrid version of the all-new Audi Q7 known as the e-tron quattro aimed at Asian markets, which adopts a the same 2.0-litre TFSI engine mentioned above but with the addition of electric motors to bring power outputs up to 367hp and 700Nm, while bringing fuel consumption down to 2.5-litres per 100km.

It remains to be seen if we’ll receive the diesel powertrain or even the hybrid powertrain for our Q7 when the SUV is launched in Malaysia. The current Audi Q7 you can buy now is only available with a 3.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, priced at RM538,900 (OTR without insurance).

The cabin features Audi’s new virtual cockpit instrument display that made its debut on the third generation TT coupe and a revamped MMI infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. There are also two 10.1-inch tablets for the rear seat entertainment system along with a Bose 3D sound system. Again, whether we receive these features is up to Audi Malaysia’s specification of the car.
