Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid

In early 2022, Toyota introduced the 2022 Corolla Cross Hybrid in Malaysia, priced at RM136,550. This marked a significant milestone as it was the first hybrid vehicle from Toyota to be locally assembled in Malaysia. This local assembly coincided with the availability of other Corolla Cross models in CKD form, resulting in a range of prices. Before this, all Corolla Cross units in Malaysia were fully imported from Thailand. The CKD versions maintain the same specifications and equipment levels as the imported ones. Toyota aimed to differentiate the Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross Hybrid primarily through their powertrains, with the former using a naturally aspirated engine and the latter featuring electrification technology for improved efficiency.

Toyota Corolla Cross Interior

The Toyota Corolla Cross interior is consistent in both the 1.8 G and 1.8 V variants, with the sole difference being the 1.8 V’s interior illumination system. Both variants feature black interior trim, a 4.2-inch display, leather seats, and a 9-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver’s seat has an 8-way power adjuster, while the passenger seat remains manual.

The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid’s interior upgrades include maintaining the interior illumination system from the 1.8 V variant, leather seats, and an 8-way power adjuster for the driver’s seat. It features a larger 7-inch multi-information display and an upgrade to automatic dual-zone climate control compared to previous versions.

The Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport interior is relatively similar to the 1.8 V variant with a few exceptions. The interior colour and trim is black with red stitching instead of the usual black. The seats material, steering wheel and gear shift lever also uses leather but red stitching is added. The seats also have an additional GR logo embossed into it.

Toyota Corolla Cross Exterior

Visually, the Corolla Cross deviates from the design of the 12th-generation Corolla sedan (E210), giving it a distinct appearance, with a resemblance to the Toyota RAV4. However, both vehicles share the TNGA (GA-C) platform and a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated 2ZR-FE engine.

Notably, the Corolla Cross doesn’t align in dimensions with the sedan. Surprisingly, the four-door sedan is longer overall (by 170mm) and has a longer wheelbase (by 60mm). However, the Cross is taller by 185mm and offers 33mm more ground clearance, enhancing its crossover appeal.

The main distinctions between the two variants are the wheels, with the 1.8G featuring smaller 17-inch alloys and the 1.8V equipped with larger 18-inch dual-tone wheels. Additionally, the 1.8G lacks LED headlights and ‘Light Curtain’ type daytime running lights, instead opting for halogen projectors and DRL bulbs.
