Volvo XC90 2015

The second generation Volvo XC90 was launched in Malaysia in 2016 in a single variant - XC90 T8. The Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription is a mild hybrid vehicle and can go up to a fully-electric range of 43 km. The XC90 T8 is fitted with the Inscription design line, has five driving modes (hybrid, pure electric, power, AWD and save) and a Four-C Active Chassis system. The Volvo XC90 only requires 3.5 hours to be fully charged at 240 V. The Volvo XC90 exterior is fitted with T-shaped daytime running lights, 20-inch 10-spoke silver alloy wheels, LED tail lights, dual exhaust tips and a power-operated tailgate. The Volvo XC90 interior features Nappa leather upholstery, leather steering wheel, crystal gear knob, diamond-cut start/stop button and volume control knob, a 12.3-inch display instrument panel, a 9-inch vertical touchscreen display with Android and Apple screen mirroring and four-way climate control. The CKD version of the Volvo XC90 was launched in mid 2016 also only as a single variant, the T8 Twin Engine, and consisted of slight differences from the imported version. The CKD Volvo XC90 was only offered in five exterior colours, as opposed to the eleven options for the imported version. The local XC90 receives a Charcoal black interior as standard. No changes were made to the engine specifications.

Two variants of the XC90 were introduced in 2018 - T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus and T5 AWD Momentum. The range topping variant, the T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus saw the addition of a Bowers & Wilkin sound system but maintains the same engine, exterior and interior as the T8 Twin Engine Inscription. The base variant, the T5 AWD Momentum, is a non-hybrid variant. The T5 is fitted with the Momentum trim which includes gloss black grille with chrome frame, chrome trim around the rear fog lamp and reflectors and 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels. The Volvo XC90 T5 interior features a regular gear knob and Cross Brushed Aluminium inlays instead of the T9’s Linear Walnut.

Volvo XC90 2019

The Volvo XC90 facelift was launched in Malaysia in 2019 in the same three variants - T5 Momentum, T8 Twin Engine Inscription and T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus. The facelifted XC90 features a revised radiator grille, revised lower front bumper and additional chrome trim on the bumper. The XC90 T5 is upgraded with four-zone automatic climate control with third-row air vents. The T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus merely adds on a fancier Orrefors crystal gear knob. The T8 maintains the same engine, but is upgraded to a larger battery which allows up to 50 km of pure electric driving range. 

Volvo XC90 2023

The Volvo XC90 received an upgrade in 2022 and was launched in Malaysia in 2023 in two variants - XC90 B5 Ultimate and XC90 Recharge T8 Ultimate. The T8 is capable of reaching a pure electric range of up to 77 km. Aside from the powertrain the main difference between the Volvo XC90 B5 Ultimate and the Volvo XC90 Recharge T8 Ultimate is that the former is fitted with 20-inch five-spoke black diamond-cut alloy wheels while the latter is fitted with 20-inch five-multi-spoke black diamond-cut wheels. The 2023 XC90 interior is also fitted with Charcoal colour and a 9-inch portrait touchscreen with updated Google services.
