All-New Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Detailed, End-2018 Debut

Mercedes-Benz has detailed its upcoming A-Class Sedan ahead of its end-2018 debut. The new premium subcompact sedan will be shown to the public for the first time at the upcoming Paris Motor Show from 4th to 14th October 2018.

The all-new A-Class Sedan is the third model to be built on the company’s updated MFA platform, after the A-Class Hatchback and China market A-Class L Sedan. The key difference between the hatchback and the Chinese A-Class L Sedan is the latter's 60 mm longer wheelbase. Outside of China, the A-Class Sedan will have a shorter 2,729 mm wheelbase, identical to the hatchback.

Dimensions wise, the all-new A-Class Sedan comes in at 4,549 mm long, with a width of 1,796 mm and a height of 1,446 mm. Its 420-litre boot is identical to the Chinese A-Class L Sedan.

Like the A-Class hatchback, the sedan features the same low front bonnet flanked by a pair of halogen headlights with integrated LED DRLs, though the Multibeam LED headlights are available as an option. 16- to 19-inch wheels are available for the all-new A-Class Sedan.

Inside, the A-Class Sedan shares the same dashboard as its hatchback sibling, including the excellent Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system. The infotainment system comes with dual 7-inch displays as standard, while the dual 10.25-inch displays are optional. Support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also built into the system.

At launch, the all-new A-Class Sedan will receive two powertrains, namely:

  • A200 with a 163 hp and 250 Nm turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic.
  • A180d with a 116 hp and 260 Nm turbodiesel paired to a 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic.

The company also stated that even the base model is feature laden, as it comes standard with the Mercedes-Benz user Experience (MBUX) infotainment system and advanced driving assistance like Active Brake Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist.

Similarly, the all-new A-Class Sedan benefits from active safety equipment first seen in the S-Class, allowing the compact sedan to drive semi-autonomously in certain conditions by utilizing an improved camera and radar systems.

Closer to home, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is considering to introduce the all-new A-Class Sedan here, though remains to be seen if the new A-Class Sedan will replace the CLA-Class.
