Geely Launches New Binyue In China – Future Proton Compact SUV?

Geely has just launched the new Binyue (缤越) in China, the first sub-compact SUV to be built on the company’s new BMA platform.

Coming in with a length of 4,330 mm, width of 1,800 mm, and a height of 1,609 mm, the all-new Binyue will be competing against the Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR, Haval H2, Ford EcoSport, and Hyundai Encino (Kona) in China. Wheelbase of the Binyue is 2,600 mm.

Powering the new Geely Binyue is a choice of two engines. The first engine is a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol that delivers 177 hp and 255 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Geely is also offering a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol that outputs 134 hp and 205 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. According to Geely, both powertrains send power to the front wheels.

To ensure the powertrain’s reliability globally, Geely has tested the Binyue extensively across Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America, clocking over 12 million km for the engine and more than 6 million km for the dual-clutch transmission.

In terms of safety, the new Binyue can be had with Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Automated Parking Assist (APA), Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian detection (AEB-P), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), built-in driving recorder, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Similar to its larger sibling, the Boyue, the smaller Binyue also features a floating 10.25-inch infotainment display with Geely’s GKUI operating system.

Geely said that the new Binyue will be available across dealerships from 1st November in China, while global markets will follow in the coming months.
