Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Launches new GLC - From RM 299,888

Just before the close of the year, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia managed to slip one model launch in as they wrap up a pretty great twelve months. It’s the new, updated Mercedes-Benz GLC range – available in two variants for the GLC SUV, and one variant for the GLC Coupe. From a distance it’s easy to tell this new model from its predecessor as the headlights and tail lights sport a full redesign, as well as smaller aesthetic trim pieces.

Globally, Mercedes-Benz has been streamlining their models – which is why you no longer see 250 variants off their models, as is the case with the new C-Class that launched not too long ago. The GLC now comes as either the GLC 200, GLC 300 4MATIC, or the GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe. Pricing starts at RM 299,888 for the GLC 200, while the GLC 300 4MATIC goes for an estimated RM 350,000, and the GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe is on sale for RM 419,888.

Powertrains for these models is as you would expect. The GLC 200 packs 197 hp and 320 Nm of torque from its turbocharged inline-four engine, sending power exclusively to the rear wheels through a 9G-tronic nine-speed automatic transmission. Both the GLC 300 4MATIC and the GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe up this figure to 258 hp and 370 Nm of torque from a turbocharged inline-four as well, this time distributing power to all four wheels through the same nine-speed automatic transmission.

The standout improvement across the GLC range is the addition of their MBUX system, having started in the A Class and has quickly sprouted up in every new model introduction. For those unfamiliar, MBUX is the latest and greatest infotainment system available in a Mercedes-Benz model, and allows for natural language voice command control among various other features. It also comes with some fairly wide, gorgeous looking screens – not quite the seamless setup as in other models, but just as high resolution.

Another addition for the GLC is the Mercedes me service, which effectively works in tandem with MBUX to create a more versatile infotainment system. Maxis is the selected service provider as there needs to be an LTE connection, with some additional features being offered in the first quarter of 2020. For now, you can use the service to remotely start your car, as well as check the fuel level or getting customer support.

Now let’s get down to brass tacks. What do you get at each price point? We’ll start with the entry level GLC 200, with which you get:

  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • LED high-performance headlamps
  • Off-road exterior
  • Ambient lighting
  • Anthracite open-pore wood trim
  • Artico leather upholstery
  • Electrically-adjusted front seats
  • Leather sports steering wheel
  • Automatic climate control
  • Keyless entry and start
  • Active Brake Assist
  • Active Parking Assist
  • Blind Spot Assist
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
  • Android Auto and Apple Carplay
  • Communication module for Mercedes me

Going up to the GLC 300 4MATIC, there are just a few features to step it up:

  • Adaptive Highbeam Assist
  • AMG Line exterior
  • EASY-PACK tailgate
  • MULTIBEAM LED headlights
  • Night package
  • Panoramic sliding sunroof
  • AMG line interior
  • Ambient lighting
  • Illuminated door sills
  • Roller sunblinds in rear doors
  • Stowage package
  • Open-pore black ash and aluminium trim
  • 360-degree camera

While there’s a premium you pay for the GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe, most of that value is in the coupe roofline as there isn’t a great deal of difference in terms of specifications. The sunroof isn’t panoramic, and everything else remains identical except for the fact that the coupe model comes with four-way lumbar support.
