PM Gives Interstate Travel The Green Light Starting Monday, October 11th

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has just announced that both interstate travel AND international travel is now allowed for all states throughout Malaysia - but only for those who have completed the full 2 doses of vaccine.

As was alluded to many times in the past couple of weeks, nationwide travel will resume once the 90% threshold of fully vaccinated adults was crossed, and this will now take effect from 12:01am, Monday, October 11th.

All travel across the country, including for tourism, is permitted except to locations placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) status. Additionally, although there will be no roadblocks, authorities are allowed to perform randomised checks on travellers to ensure they have completed the 2 vaccine doses.

Despite the current vaccination tally (Adult 18+) standing at 89.7% at the time of writing, the Ministry of Health has confirmed that the remaining 0.3% has been accounted for or exceeded, hence the Sunday afternoon announcement, with the new data to be reflected on the official CovidNOW website at midnight.

On the matter of international travel, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also announced that all those residing in Malaysia (provided they have complated 2 doses of the vaccine) will also be allowed to travel abroad including for tourism reasons starting tomorrow - Monday, October 11th. Previously, only those approved for MyTravelPass, issued by the Immigration Department, were allowed to cross international borders.

However, the PM noted that travellers returning to Malaysia will need to perform a swap test 3 days prior to their returning to Malaysia and once again when they arrive here. Following this, they will also have to undergo a mandatory 14 day quarantine period, which is allowed to be performed from home.

While he commended the tireless work and sacrifices of our frontliners, particularly in the health and medical field, as well as the outstanding work of the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), he stressed that the fight against COVID-19 was not yet over. Despite this significant move in our return to normalcy, this is not an excuse to abandon ‘new normal’ practices.

The PM advised all Malaysians to stay vigilant and continue adhering to the SOPs we are all used to following by now and reiterated the fact that enforcement of these guidelines and regulations will still continue regardless, with penalties to be dealt to those found flouting the rules.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
