Renault Talisman Estate Revealed: Retains Sedan's Dimensions, Adds On Practicality

Last month, Renault unveiled its latest D-segment model, the Talisman, but now, the French carmaker has introduced an estate version of the Talisman.

In terms of dimensions, the Talisman Estate is almost exactly the same in terms of length (4.85m), width (1.87m), and height (1.46m) as the sedan. Even the wheelbase length of 2.81m is retained here as well. The clear difference is of course the estate’s body shape which features a sweeping roofline with polished aluminium roof bars running across the top.

One of the benefits of an estate is added practicality. By default, the Talisman Estate offers 572 litres of boot space up to the parcel shelf and a maximum object load length of 1,116mm. Fold the rear seats down and this increases the load length to an impressive 2,010mm while boot space equates to a substantial 1,700 litres. Access to the boot is made easier thanks to a powered lifegate – activated by waving your foot underneath the rear bumper for hands-free opening.

The interior space of the Talisman Estate is similar to that of the sedan with the benefit of an extra 30mm of headroom at the rear, extending it to 886mm. Everything else remains the same for the front headroom (902mm), front elbow room (1,512mm), rear knee room (262mm), and 25 litres of cabin stowage.

Other features include electric front seats that are adjustable up to ten settings and provide a massage function, four-way lumbar adjustment, adjustable headrests, and heated seat cushions. The seats also come with integrated ventilation for greater comfort in hot weather and ‘Cover Carving Technology – strong, semi-rigid, lightweight shells incorporated into the front seat backs, freeing up extra space for rear passengers.

Infotainment is handled by the R-Link 2 system, available in either a seven-inch or 8.7-inch touchscreen display, which not only oversees the vehicle’s driving aids but performs standard duties as well. Audio playback is done through a BOSE Surround Sound system.

Engine options for the Talisman Estate are the same for the sedan version with two petrol engines (Energy TCe 150 and the Energy TCe 200) and three diesel engines (Energy dCi 110, Energy dCi 130, Energy dCi 160), with transmission options that include a seven-speed dual-clutch EDC automatic, six-speed manual, and a six-speed dual-clutch EDC automatic.

Renault’s 4Control chassis with active damping is found here as well with Multi-Sense that allows drivers to select from four pre-programmed settings with a fifth being fully configurable. A wide range of driving aids are included as well – Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Active Emergency Braking System (AEBS), and many others.

The Renault Talisman Estate will go on sale in Europe during the first half of 2016 but will make a stopover at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show for its first public appearance.
