Singapore Private Vehicles Entering Malaysia To Pay RM20 Fee Starting 1 October, Must Register Vehicles

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has confirmed that beginning 1 October, foreign private vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore will be required to pay the RM20 Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fee. Previously, it was announced the VEP fee collection would begin in September.

Speaking to The Star, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said that payment for the fee was only by Touch 'n Go card and that the VEP would be on imposed on private passenger vehicles.

He added that all private vehicles, public buses, taxis, goods vehicles, and diplomatic cars are required to be registered with the Road Transport Department, failing which they will be refused entry into Malaysia from 1 September.

Registration can be done online from 15 August and vehicle owners will be required to pay RM10 for the road charge (RC), which is valid for five years.

The VEP fee is exempted for government vehicles, motorcycles, public buses and taxis but they will still have to be registered with the JPJ.

Abdul Aziz also added that a second phase of the VEP system for the Malaysia-Thailand border is in the works, with a mid-2016 roll-out period, maintaining the same fee amount.
