Spyshots: All-New MQB Platform 2018 Volkswagen Jetta Spotted In US

The outgoing Volkswagen Jetta will be replaced by an all-new model some time next year, as spyshots indicate that Volkswagen is currently doing road tests for the new model.

For its new iteration, Volkswagen will be utilizing its flexible MQB platform for the Jetta, retiring the older mk6 Golf-based PQ35 platform.

These spyshots depict a test mule that is heavily camouflaged, with its front and rear ends completely covered up. Despite that, these spyshots give us a better overall look of the new Jetta, including its sloping roofline that mimics the Volkswagen Passat B8. It is also possible that the new Jetta could feature a clamshell design for the front bonnet. Elsewhere, the test mule here also has LED daytime running lights that is visible through the camo, in addition to the LED tail lights and turn signals.

In terms of powertrain, we believe Volkswagen could carry over its range of turbocharged engines and dual-clutch transmissions from the updated Golf mk7.5, including a 1.5-litre turbocharged TSI Evo engine.

The company did not say when the new Jetta will be launched, though we reckon that the new model could go official towards the end of year, with sales starting in 2018.
