The Fenyr Supersport - W Motors Rolls Out Another Crazy Supercar You Can’t Own

Unless you’re the Sultan of Johor, in which case “Greetings from Carlist.my, Your Highness.” - but since they’re only making 25 examples of this Fenyr Supersport, you’re likely not even going to see one in the flesh much less own one.

It’s the latest car come from W Motors, the Lebanese turned Dubai-based supercar maker whose previous vehicle was the Lykan Hypersport, official guest star on the blockbuster Furious 7 earlier this year, another in a line of cars in the series that had more screen time than the actual actors - and with good reason.

On to the Fenyr Supersport. It was revealed at the 2015 Dubai Motor Show and has got an eye-catching look to it, much like it’s sibling, the ludicrously expensive Lykan Hypersport. Speaking of which, no mention has been made of price as of yet. However, given that the Lykan sold for around US$3.4 million or RM14.8 million, approximately. For some, the angles, vents, and overall jagged way the car is shaped might be too much. Certainly, W Motors isn’t a fan of subtle curves. Their design language is very much an antithesis to the Jaguar E-Type.

Judging from their naming scheme of a five-letter word followed by ‘something’-sport, ‘Super’ should fall below ‘Hyper’, leading us to guess this car a notch below the Lykan in the W Motors hierarchy.

Under the hood, the Fenyr (Fen-Near?) houses a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat six from renowned Porsche tuner RUF Automobile GmbH that is said to produce over 900hp in its final production version. Power is sent to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which we’re guessing is Porsche’s PDK transmission but beefed-up to handle all that added grunt.

It’s aluminium chassis and carbon fibre bodywork keeps the weight low, leading to a claimed century sprint time of just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 399km/h. All this suggests that the Fenyr is would sit above the Lykan, but we’ll wait until the company makes that clear.

W Motors is still very much a small-scale automaker, so we’re not sure if their ultra-expensive Transformer-inspired cars will be around in the next decade. And while it’s nice to see a new entrant in the supercar landscape, it’s taking on a very competitive market with a decidedly narrower customer base and brands that already have established loyalties.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
