Transport Ministry conducting survey on heavier penalties for drunk driving

A few weeks ago on the back of a drunk-driving accident that caused the life of 31-year old police officer Corporal Safwan Muhammad Ismail at an MCO roadblock, we explored Malaysia's drunk-driving laws asking the question if our laws were strict enough?

Well it appears that same question was on the minds of the Transport Ministry. An online survey is being conducted via its Logistic and Land Transport Division aimed at obtaining feedback from the rakyat relating to the permissible level of alcohol content under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

This comes on the back of the Cabinets call to review Act 333 to increase the penalty on drunk driving and also lowering the permissible level of blood-alcohol content in the driver's body as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The survey will run from May 21 to June 4 here.

This is your chance to express your views and have a say in the matter, so exercise your democratic rights, take a few minutes and fill up the survey regardless of what your views are.
