Volkswagen Debuts All-New T-Cross – Smallest VW SUV Ever

Volkswagen has taken the covers off its smallest SUV yet, the all-new T-Cross. This new model is essentially a crossover version of the all-new MQB-based Polo.

Coming in with a length of 4,107 mm, the all-new T-Cross is shorter in length than some of its key rivals, such as the Renault Captur (4,122 mm) and Peugeot 2008 (4,159 mm). While its length may be shorter than its rivals, its 2,563 mm long wheelbase puts it ahead of the Peugeot 2008 (2,538 mm). In addition to that, the T-Cross’ width of 1,760 mm also shadows that of the 2008 (1,739 mm).

These numbers certainly make the all-new Volkswagen T-Cross a really compact SUV, but claims that the new model seats five people with ease. Volkswagen also said that the sliding rear seats can be adjusted by another 14 cm, allowing for either more passenger leg room or more luggage space. Speaking of luggage space, the all-new T-Cross can hold between 385 and 455 litres of cargo.

According to Volkswagen, the all-new T-Cross is available with 4 turbocharged engines - three petrol and one diesel. The most powerful engine is a 1.5-litre TSI that does 150 PS.

To cater to the ever-growing demand for such small SUVs, Volkswagen will be investing some 1 billion Euros at its Navarra facility in Spain, where the T-Cross is made. Volkswagen is also currently developing market-specific versions of the T-Cross for South America and China.

While the world premiere was in Amsterdam, Volkswagen actually unveiled the car a few hours earlier in Shanghai, and the company will unveil the new model later in São Paulo tonight.
