The new Toyota 86 boasts enhanced power thanks to Subaru's 2.4-liter four-cylinder horizontally opposed engine, producing 232bhp and 250Nm of torque (a 35bhp and 45Nm increase over its predecessor). This extra power enables the Toyota GR86 to accelerate from 0 to 62mph 1.1 seconds faster than the model it replaces, achieving this feat in just 6.3 seconds. The JDM GR86 will offer a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox and will incorporate Subaru's 'Eyesight' driver assistance systems.

While the sports car's dimensions closely resemble those of its predecessor, it has managed to shed five kilograms in weight, thanks to the use of aluminum in the roof and body panels.
