Mazda’s entry to the B-segment class is the 2017 Mazda 2. It is offered here in both sedan and hatchback guise with a 1.5-litre engine and a starting price of RM90, 766. Although this compact car commands a premium price compared to its rivals, its specification list so impressive that it will put some other cars in the higher segments to shame. Competition for this model comes in the form of the Honda Jazz, Suzuki Swift, Kia Rio, Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 208 and Chevrolet Sonic.
The Malaysian-spec 2016 Mazda 2 is powered by a direct-injected 1.5-litre four-cylinder Skyactiv-G petrol mill that outputs 114hp at 6,000rpm and 148Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Power is channelled to the front wheels via a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed torque converter automatic transmission, as featured on all locally sold Mazda Skyactiv models.
