The 2017 Mazda 8 is a full-size MPV that competes against the likes of the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Previa. Official distributor of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia, Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd currently offers the MPV in just a sole variant here. The 2015 Mazda 8 2.3L is priced at RM189, 928.10 (OTR without insurance).
Although introduced to the market some time ago, the Mazda 8 is still a formidable MPV that boasts a seating capacity for seven as well as endless seat configurations to manage cargo capacity.
The powertrain that is found in the Mazda 8 comprises of a 2.3-litre MZR petrol engine with Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT) that sends its power to the front wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission with a manual over-ride function called Activematic.
Being a reworked version of the 2.3-litre mill found in the first-generation Mazda 6, the power plant generates 161hp at 6,500 rpm and 203Nm at 3,500 rpm. The century sprint from 0-100 km/h is met in 13.3 seconds and top speed is 170 km/h.
Inside, the spacious cabin is perfect for medium-sized families. With two sliding captain chairs forming the second row seats and 60:40 split-folding seats at the third row, there’s not much that won’t fit in the Mazda 8. The electric sliding doors plus tailgate add further convenience when accessing the rear.
As for safety, two airbags at the front can be found along with curtain airbags for the rear passengers. Braking safety systems are present here with anti-lock brakes and electronic brake distribution with brake assist. However, stability and traction control systems, which are found in some other full-size MPVs are absent here.
The 2015 Mazda 8 may have aged but it is still a capable model that is perfect for someone looking for a practical and feature-packed MPV.
