Mazda’s entry to the B-segment class is the Mazda 2. It is offered here in both sedan and hatchback guise with a 1.5-litre engine and a starting price of RM90, 766. Although this compact car commands a premium price compared to its rivals, its specification list so impressive that it will put some other cars in the higher segments to shame.
Competition for this model comes in the form of the Honda Jazz, Kia Rio, Ford Fiesta, and the Peugeot 208.
The Malaysian-spec Mazda 2 is powered by a direct-injected 1.5-litre four-cylinder Skyactiv-G petrol mill that outputs 114hp at 6,000rpm and 148Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Power is channelled to the front wheels via a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed torque converter automatic transmission, as featured on all locally sold Mazda Skyactiv models.
