The 2017 Nissan Almera belongs in the B-segment and rivals models such as the Volkswagen Polo Sedan, Ford Fiesta Sedan, Toyota Vios, Mazda 2 Sedan, Honda City and Mitsubishi Attrage. Edaran Tan Chong Motors, the official distributors of Nissan models in Malaysia, is offering three variants of the Almera for us here. The 1.5E Manual carries a starting price of RM68,500, while the top of the range variant, the 1.5VL Auto starts at RM82,000.
All 2017 Almera variants are powered by the 1.5-litre HR15DE inline-four engine that packs Continously Variable Valve Timing Control (CVTC) technology. Power output is rated at 102hp at 6,000 rpm and 139Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The entry level model is fitted with a five-speed manual transmission, while the other three variants rely on a four-speed automatic gearbox to send power to the ground.
15-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 185/65 series tires, chrome door handles, fabric wrapped black coloured interior, multi information display, reverse sensors, a four speaker entertainment sound system with CD, MP3, AUX and USB are standard across the range. Bells and whistles exclusive for the top of the line Almera 1.5 VL variant are smart entry, push button ignition, a multi-function steering wheel, temperature display and automatic air-conditioning.
In terms of safety all models are fitted with ISOFIX anchor points, anti-theft alarm, an immobilizer system and ABS with EBD and Brake Assist as standard. The 1.5 E Manual and Auto come only with a driver airbag, while the higher spec 1.5 V and VL are fitted with two airbags.
Edaran Tan Chong Motors are offering various options for the 2016 Nissan Almera including combination leather upholstery, a Nismo aero bodykit, window tints, upgraded infotainment systems as well as a RM14k NISMO performance package that consists of a front and rear bumper spoiler, side skirts, trunk lid spoiler, 16-inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres, a sports exhaust muffler, and a performance suspension system.
