The 2017 Nissan Sylphy is Edaran Tan Chong Motor’s, the official distributor of Nissan models in Malaysia, entry into the highly competitive C-segment sedan market. It rivals models such as the Hyundai Elantra, Kia Cerato, Proton Inspira, Renault Fluence, Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis, Mazda 3 and Ford Focus Sedan. Offered here in two variants, the base 2015 Sylphy 1.8 E carries a price tag of RM111, 900, while the more premium 1.8 VL will set you back RM10, 000 more.
Powering the 2015 Nissan Sylphy line-up is a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre MRA8DE engine, paired to an Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Japanese sedan’s power output is rated at 131hp at 6,000rpm and 174Nm of torque at 3,600rpm. Claimed fuel consumption by the carmaker is 6.4-litre/100 km but note that this is based on the Japanese JC08 test cycle.
The base variant comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, halogen headlamps, side mirrors with signal lights, Bright Silver interior accents, an urethane steering wheel, cruise control, fine vision meter and fabric seats. There is also a six-speaker sound system that supports CD, MP3, Bluetooth and AUX input.
Upgrading to the 1.8 VL variant will buy features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, Xenon headlamps with auto levelling, LED accent lights, auto on/off headlights, a rear spoiler, smart entry, push start ignition, leather wrapped steering wheel and seats, dual zone auto climate control and a rear view camera. Entertainment wise, the range topper has the same six-speaker audio system but there is a 4.3-inch display screen now.
In terms of safety, six airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control, traction control system, and, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist are fitted as standard on all 2015 Nissan Sylphy variants.
