The Volvo V40 is the entry level model in the Swedish marque's line-up. Its sold here in three forms - 1.6 T4, 2.0 T5 and Cross Country 2.0 T5 priced at RM175,888, RM190,888 and RM202,888 respectively. The range topping Cross Country version of the V40 is differentiated from the regular model with a raised ride height and crossover-like plastic claddings. The compact hatchback is positioned to take on cars like the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1-Series and Lexus CT.
Engine wise the entry level unit is a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit that pumps out 180hp and 240Nm of torque. It is paired to the carmaker's six-speed dual-clutch Powershift transmission. The 2.0-litre five-cylinder mill on the other hand is good for 213hp at 6,000rpm and 300Nm of torque between 2,700rpm and 5,000rpm. A regular six-speed auto gearbox is employed here to send the power to the ground.
Volvo claims the entry-level V40 consumes just 6.5-litres of fuel per 100km, while the higher powered T5 units will return a fuel economy figure of 7.5-litres per 100km.
