The eighth-generation Volkswagen Passat isn’t due for a local debut anytime soon but over in Europe, a new head-up display (HUD) can now be specified for the whole Passat range offered there.
This includes the Passat Saloon, Passat Variant, Passat Alltrack and Passat GTE where the HUD can be had as a €560 (RM2,332) option.
The 10 x 15cm transparent display is located behind the dashboard in front of the driver and is activated by a separate control next to the rotary light switch, where at a push of a button, rises into the driver’s field of vision. It is capable of displaying on 480 x 240 pixels, various information ranging from the current vehicle speed, speed limits, and navigation data.
Volkswagen say the advantage of this HUD system is that alerts are projected into the driver's immediate field of vision, allowing for a reduced reaction time. In addition, the driver's eyes do not need to refocus so often from far-field to near-field vision.
