Frankfurt 2017: All-New Suzuki Swift Sport Previewed

Suzuki Motor will officially unveil an all-new Suzuki Swift Sport at this coming September’s Frankfurt International Motor Show.

Expected to go on sale in Europe and Japan later this year as a 2018 model, Suzuki says the third generation Swift Sport has undergone “a complete redesign and will deliver an all-new level of excitement for sport minded drivers across the world.”

Apart from a sole image showing the front of the all-new Swift Sport, Suzuki did not reveal much else about its latest warm hatch. However since we already know how the regular Swift of the same generation looks like, it's not too difficult to imagine how the all-new Swift Sport will look like. Further details on the powertrain and other features will only be announced during the opening of the 2017 Frankfurt International Motor Show on 12-September.

Having said that, we already know for certain that the outgoing generation Swift Sport’s 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine will be retired, and is expected to be replaced by a turbocharged unit, likely to be paired to a six-speed manual transmission.

Like the rest of the Swift variants, the all-new Swift Sport will ride on Suzuki’s latest Heartect platform, which is said to offer an even more engaging driving experience as the driver’s seats can now be positioned lower and closer to the car’s centre of gravity.

The all-new Swift Sport’s more modest siblings of the same generation are currently powered by either a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine or a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder.
