After a month or so of teasing, UMW Toyota has finally officially launched the all-new Toyota Corolla in Malaysia. The model is available in two variants – the 1.8E and the 1.8G – which are priced at RM 128,888 and RM 136,888 respectively, on-the-road without insurance.
As we mentioned in previous articles, this all-new model sits on the critically-acclaimed TNGA platform which first made its way to our market underpinning the C-HR, and eventually the Camry as well. The platform promises better ride comfort and handling, which you can read about in our quick review soon.
Overall, the car is 10 mm longer, 5 mm wider, and 45 mm lower, while maintaining the same wheelbase at 2700 mm as the previous model. While not being the outright largest in the segment, it also isn't the smallest either and there's a reasonable amount of space for all occupants.
Compared the previous generation, there is only one engine carried over – a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre inline-four engine that produces 139 PS and 173 Nm of torque – which is paired with a slightly revised CVT-type automatic transmission.
No matter which variant you choose, you can be sure of a pretty generous list of options. The 1.8E variant gets these items as standard:
If you spring for the higher-spec 1.8G, the main attraction is the Toyota Safety Sense package that includes a wealth of integrated safety systems such as the pre-collision system (PCS), lane departure alert (LDA) with steering assist, lane tracing assist (LTA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM).
In addition to that, you get the following items:
There will be five exterior colours to choose from – Celestite Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black, Red Mica Metallic, and White Pearl Crystal Shine (for an additional RM 800). There will also be a five year, unlimited mileage factory warranty as part of the purchase price.
