In another move in the effort to curb traffic woes during this festive season, Malacca’s Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron has announced that all state roads will be capped at 70km/h.
This move is intended to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the upcoming Hari Raya holidays, and the reduced speed limit will be in effect until July 26, a week after the Hari Raya weekend, according to a report by The Star.
“We gazetted the speed limit at today's executive council meeting, which means that motorists can be slapped with summonses if they violate the traffic regulation,” he said on Thursday.
So far, it seems that only Malacca is the only state to have made such a ruling. Normally, the speed limit imposed by authorities on state roads there is 80km/h.
