Beijing 2016: Honda Avancier Is Honda’s Latest Flagship SUV For China

With a 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine under the bonnet driving all four wheels via a nine speed automatic transmission, this five-seater Honda Avancier is Honda’s latest flagship SUV for China.

Like many other markets, the SUV segment is one of the fastest growing segments in China, but it’s also one where Honda is woefully under-represented in.

Currently Honda only has two SUV models in China – the CR-V sold by Honda’s Chinese joint venture Dongfeng Honda, and the HR-V which is sold under two different nameplates, X-RV by Dongfeng Honda and Vezel by Honda’s other Chinese joint venture Guangqi Honda.

At the moment, not much else is known about the Avencier, other than it’s an all-wheel drive five-seater SUV powered by a 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo petrol engine. A hybrid variant and a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated VTEC engine is said to join the model line-up at a later stage.

Inside, the Avencier features an Acura-like button operated transmission, doing away with the traditional gear shifter.

The Avencier, to be sold by Guangqi Honda later this year, will compete against the Ford Edge (which sits between the Kuga and Explorer) and the Nissan Murano. It is likely to remain as a China-only model.
