First 50 Owners Receive The Keys To Their Toyota C-HR

UMW Toyota (UMWT) first previewed the highly anticipated Toyota C-HR at Carlist.my’s DRIVE event last year. Since then, UMWT has been promoting and displaying the C-HR at showrooms and roadshows nationwide.

50 weeks after its Malaysian preview, UMWT presented the keys to the first 50 owners of the new Toyota C-HR at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival season finale event. Priced from RM145,500, the Thailand-imported C-HR is only available in a single variant.

"Since being previewed last year, interest in the new Toyota C-HR has been high. To date, we have received around 1,500 bookings for the model and because this is a unique model, we wanted to personally handover the C-HR to our first 50 customers," said President of UMWT Mr. Ravindran K.

Built on Toyota’s latest TNGA architecture, the C-HR (Compact High Rider) promises greater driver engagement than other similar offering by Toyota in the past. The C-HR rides on newly developed Macpherson struts suspension in front and double-wishbones in the rear. Toyota adds that large-diameter stabilizers and shock absorbers with optimized damping characteristics provides superior steering stability and a comfortable ride.

Compared to the competitors, the C-HR is somewhat in the middle in sizing (length and width). It is larger than its equivalent engine-sized competitor, the Honda HR-V, as well as the stylish Mazda CX-3, while smaller than the similarly priced Volkswagen Tiguan and Peugeot 3008.

Engine and transmission

Only one powertrain is offered by UMWT. The 2ZR-FBE 1.8-litre engine generate outputs of 140 PS and 171 Nm of torque, 2 Nm less than the engine in the Corolla Altis.  Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT-type automatic that also allow for manual shifting of 7-virtual ratios.
