Frankfurt 2015: Jaguar's F-Pace SUV Makes Its Debut

Following months of previews and teasers in the lead up to this event, Jaguar has now presented their newest model, the F-Pace, to the world – marking the marque’s first foray into the SUV space. 

Jaguar, with the help of stunt drive Terry Grant, even set a Guinness World Record by driving it around the world's biggest 360-degree loop to celebrate its 80th anniversary.

The pronounced rear haunches, aerodynamic body with a drag coefficient of 0.34, fender vents, and tail light arrangement mirror Jaguar’s sentiment of the F-Pace being a “performance crossover” and carrying over the design the CX-17 concept through to production.

The F-Pace can weigh as little as 1,665kg with an 80 percent aluminium body construction together with additional weight savings derived from a composite tailgate and other components made from magnesium.

Engine choices will comprise of a 180PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel manual RWD/ AWD and automatic AWD; 300PS 3.0-litre V6 diesel automatic AWD; and an F-Type derived 380PS 3.0-litre V6 petrol automatic AWD.

All six-cylinder F-Pace models will come with optimised versions of ZF's 8HP eight-speed automatic transmissions, while it is optional over the manula transmission on the 2.0-litre diesel model. 

Fitted with the 380PS 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine, however, and the F-Pace needs just 5.5 seconds to perform the century sprint and is able to go on to a limited top speed of 250km/h. Its All-Wheel Drive and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system preserves rear-wheel drive agility and character but, when needed, can transfer up to 50 percent of torque to the front wheels.

The F-Pace also borrows from the F-Type’s chassis technology too, namely the double wishbone front suspension and Integral Link rear suspension. Torque Vectoring is fitted as standard, as is a tuned Electric Power Assisted Steering system.

Drivers will be able to configure the F-Pace’s dynamics too, with individual settings for throttle, transmission response, steering and, where fitted, the Adaptive Dynamics system.

Safety has been made a top order priority with a suite of driver assistance systems: Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Driver Condition Monitor systems.

Inside, Jaguar has equipped the F-Pace with its InControl Touch Pro system, operating from a 10.2-inch touchscreen that is powered by a quad-core processor and solid-state drive. Navigation can also be shown on the 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster.

In the UK, the all-new F-Pace range will be made of: F-Pace Prestige, R-Sport, Portfolio, and First Edition.
