Frankfurt 2017: Mercedes-AMG Project One Is Coming To Malaysia; One Order Already TakenAuto News
The spectacular Project One hyper car developed to mark the 50th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG is coming to Malaysia, sources from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia confirmed.
Inspired by technology from Mercedes-AMG’s Formula 1 exploits with Petronas, the Project One is currently shown in public for the first time at the ongoing IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in concept form.
Mercedes has not committed to any particular timeline to roll out the production version, but a very exclusive limited run of 275 units is being planned. MBM officials confirmed that one very wealthy Malaysian has already placed a firm order for the vehicle. Total number of units allocated for the Malaysian market is not disclosed.
Powering the AMG Project One is an F1-inspired setup that places a 1.6-litre electrically-turbocharged V6 joined to a 120 kW electric motor at the crankshaft and powering the rear wheels via a bespoke 8-speed transmission developed exclusively for this car.
The front wheels too are driven by a dedicated electric motor each side, providing not only drive, but also regenerative braking and torque vectoring. The overall setup is said to produce over 1,000hp and will propel the Project One from rest to 200 km/h in less than six seconds and onwards to a top speed exceeding 300 km/h.
The Project One is expected to retail at € 2.275 million in Europe. That one Malaysian who placed that booking is a very wealthy individual indeed.
