Geneva 2017: You Won’t Believe Which Model was just Named Car of the Year

Vehicles aside, another highlight of the Geneva Motor Show is without a doubt, the Car of the Year award, which many consider as one of the greatest accolades a car can receive.

That said, the car that claimed this year’s crown to the surprise of many, was the new Peugeot 3008.

The judging panel, which comprises 58 top European automotive journalists, mainly acclaimed the 3008’s style, interior design and performance. Besides that, Peugeot added that this trophy joins the twenty other prizes the SUV has already won.

It is also worth mentioning that the vehicle is the fifth Peugeot to win Car of the Year, and the first SUV honoured in the history of the COTY prize.

Featuring a fresh design, improved comfort, as well as better road handling, the 3008 also comes with Peugeot’s i-Cockpit; a state of the art infotainment system which Peugeot claims to give new meaning to ‘being in the driver's seat’.

With a compact steering wheel, 12.3-inch heads-up display and central capacitive touchscreen console with ergonomic piano keys, the new 3008 also offers a number of driving aids and other high-tech equipment as well as seamless connectivity.

The 3008 totalled 319 points, edging out the Alfa Romeo Giulia with 296 points. Third place on the podium went to the Mercedes-Benz E-class, which scored 197 points.

On another note, this is the second time Peugeot has received the prize for Car of the Year in three years. Besides being the first SUV to win the award, the 3008 is also the fifth Peugeot to be named Car of the Year, following the 308 in 2014, the 307 in 2002, the 405 in 1988 and the 504 in 1969.
