In an attempt to induce “healthy competition,” the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will reportedly kick-off a new star rating system for driving schools in Malaysia, reports Bernama.

"Driving schools which offered the best services will get five stars followed by four stars and so on," said JPJ director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad in his talks with the Malaysia news site.

There are a total of 205 driving schools in Malaysia, and the new star rating system will help young drivers to pick the best ones.

The JPJ director-general also believes that driving schools will then begin to compete for the five-star (max) rating, thus improving the quality of driving schools in Malaysia. Driving circuits at these facilities are also expected to improve to conform with the guidelines set.

Would this be something that produces better drivers in Malaysia too?
