Kia Teases All-New B-Segment Stonic Crossover

Kia Motors Corporation have revealed for the first time, the sketches of its all-new B-Segment crossover, called the Stonic. The Stonic gets its name from combining the words ‘Speedy’ and ‘Tonic’, which refers to the first and last note in the musical scale.

The Stonic is said to be inspired by the form of larger Kia SUVs, such as the Sportage and Sorento, and aims to offer buyers with a striking yet elegant SUV design.

An interesting design highlight of the Stonic is its sweeping roofline and uniquely designed roof rack which adds a sporty look to the vehicle. The tail lamp graphics are also meant to give the Stonic a rather sporty and premium appearance.

On the inside, Kia has kept things simple with straight lines and smooth panel surfaces. The focal point of the interior is the ‘floating’ HMI (human-machine interface) screen which will integrate the car’s infotainment options.

There is no word yet from Kia regarding the powertrain options for the Stonic. However, Kia’s B-Segment Rio model is offered with three petrol engines, ranging from a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, and two naturally aspirated engines available in 1.25-litre, and 1.4-litre displacements. A 1.4-litre turbodiesel is also offered in certain markets.

The Stonic is scheduled to go on sale in certain markets in the second half of 2017. Kia claim, the Stonic will be the most customisable Kia ever.
