Malaysia Autoshow 2016: BAIC D20 Poised To Challenge Proton & Perodua

Alongside the locally-assembled BAIC EV200 electric vehicle also comes its regular petrol-powered counterparts that being previewed together at the Malaysian Autoshow 2016 being held at MINES Convention Centre.

Like the EV 200, the D20 will also be offered with sedan and hatchback bodystyles with a choice between 1.3- and 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engines claimed to meet Euro V emission standards. The D20 is also being assembled locally alongside the EV200 at Gurun, Kedah.

The 1.3-litre engine comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, whilst 1.5-litre variants offer the additional choice between that and a 4-speed automatic. Furthermore, the 1.3-litre is offered in Comfort trim only, whilst the 1.5-litre comes with the option of Comfort and Fashion trim.

Full combination of variants are listed below; all trim levels are available in sedan and hatchback bodystyles:

  • 1.5-litre M/T Fashion

1.5-litre M/T & A/T Fashion adds:

  • Optional: 6.5-inch touchscreen, GPS, reverse camera

Final prices of the D20 have yet to be approved, but BAIC is hoping to price it in the vicinity of the Proton Iriz and Perodua Myvi, putting it in the RM45k to RM55k ballpark.
