Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is Prepared if Recall Over Starter Motors is Necessary

As the result of a very peculiar set of conditions, there was a recent recall issued by Daimler AG regarding cars that may have suffered flood damage. Daimler AG is using the term "hydrolocked", although from past experience the entire engine usually needs to be replaced in the event of a hydrolock. The part in question is the starter motor, which may begin to overheat as the starter current limiter no longer operates.

Of course, this only happens if a driver continuously tries to start the car after it has been hydrolocked and doesnt seem to pose a threat in regular operation. In any case, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is aware of the recall operations in other countries and will be prepared if the recall affects Malaysian units as well. As a general rule of thumb, if your car dies after going through a flood you should not try to start it. Forcing it to start with water inside will potentially bend and break many, many things in the engine and could turn a relatively small repair job into an entire engine replacement.
