Mercedes-Benz Thailand Hits 100,000th Locally Assembled Car Milestone

The partnership between Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Thailand and Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP) have reached a new milestone in December when they successfully rolled out their 100,000th Thai-assembled Mercedes-Benz vehicle – a Mercedes-Benz S500e Exclusive.

The Mercedes-Benz S500e Exclusive is a plug-in hybrid that pairs a 3.0-litre biturbo V6 petrol engine with an 85 kW electric motor. It’s different from the S400h that we have here in Malaysia, which is a regular hybrid with no plug-in function.

Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP) have been assembling Mercedes-Benz vehicles at their Samut Prakan plant since 1979.

In the same announcement, Mercedes-Benz Thailand also revealed that that the current 135,000 square metre Samut Prakan facility will be expanded to 185,000 square metres later this year to cater for increase demand for plug-in hybrid Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Thailand.

Currently, the TAAP plant is assembling four Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrid models – S500e, E350e, C350e, and GLE500e.

Thailand’s carbon emissions-based excise duty structure currently offers a 5 percent discount on excise duty for locally-assembled hybrid/plug-in hybrid vehicles.
