Mitsubishi Debuts New Triton In Thailand, To Be Previewed At KLIMS

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has unveiled the facelifted Triton in Bangkok, which is the mid-life update for the fifth-generation model that was first introduced back in 2015.

Sales will commence first in Thailand on 17th November, before the model is introduced in 150 other countries around the globe. Depending on market, the Triton is also known as the L200.

Visually, the facelifted Mitsubishi Triton features a front end that closely resembles the Xpander and Pajero Sport, featuring the ‘Dynamic Shield’ front fascia with slim bi-LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. Similar to the Xpander, the front fog lights are housed at the edges of the bumper.

The sides get a new set of 16-inch alloy wheels, while new LED tail lights complete the exterior of the facelifted Triton.

Moving inside, the Triton gains some new switchgear and air vents for its midlife update. In addition to that, the updated Triton also gets soft touch materials and stitching on the centre arm rest, floor console, and parking brake.

Mitsubishi has also given the new Triton some much-needed advanced active and driver assistance systems, including:

  • Forward Collision Mitigation
  • Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS)

Other changes include improved braking performance as Mitsubishi has fitted larger front discs and calipers to the new Triton. As for ride comfort, the new Triton gets larger rear dampers with more damping oil, which Mitsubishi claims is able to improve ride.

Two engines are carried over from the pre-facelift model – a 2.5-liter turbodiesel and a newer 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel. The latter is good for 179 hp and 430 Nm. Mitsubishi has replaced the 5-speed automatic with a new 6-speed unit, which the company says is able to offer smoother gearshifts and better refinement.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) will be previewing the new Triton at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show from 23rd November till 2nd December.

The public can also check out the new Triton at the following locations:
