Mitsubishi Triton vs Caterpillar 769D - Can The Triton Tow 31 Tonnes?

The Mitsubishi Triton, despite its lightweight aluminum block engine, is still a pick-up truck that’s designed to be capable of heavy duty work and it tips the scale at 1,840 kg. On its own, it’s certainly no pushover but when parked next to the 31,250 kg Caterpillar 769D, the Triton is just a breakfast bowl for the Caterpillar.

While the Triton’s 2.4-litre MIVEC Turbo Diesel DI-D Common Rail VGT Intercooler engine produces 181 PS of power and 430 Nm of torque, the Caterpillar’s massive 18.0-litre engine pushes out 492 PS and 2194 Nm of earth moving torque.

At a glance, expecting a standard specs 1.8-tonne Triton VGT Adventure X to pull a 31-tonne Caterpillar would seem foolish but not to the folks at Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia. Watch the video below.
