New 2015 Volkswagen Polo Sedan, Hatch Revealed In Malaysia, Priced From RM90k

Volkswagen Group Malaysia kicked off their Sales Carnival at Setia City Mall to make it easier than ever to own their cars through the ‘0 Downpayment and 0 Interest’ Raya campaign.

At the same event, they also took the opportunity to preview the new facelifted Polo Sedan, alongside the new Polo hatch as well.

Prices

Both refreshed Sedan and Hatchback Polo variants retain their pre-facelift prices. For the Volkswagen Polo 1.6 CKD hatch, it starts at RM90,646 while the facelifted Polo Sedan retails for RM92,646. Those prices are OTR (on-the-road) prices excluding insurance.

Volkswagen also showcased the other models that are part of the Raya campaign, where customers will enjoy zero downpayment and zero interest for seven years: Golf 1.4 TSI, Passat, Tiguan, and Jetta 1.4 TSI.

Mr Armin Keller, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia said, “Raya is the most celebrated festive occasion by Muslims and Malaysians of other faiths alike. It’s when people travel home to spend time with family and friends. Our aims with this campaign is to make the brand more accessible to Malaysians who desire the performance offered by our cars. Hand in hand with Malaysians, we want to help make this meaningful journey home a great driving experience.”

As we have previewed back in March, the Polo hatchback is receives the updated styling and new customers in June will be receiving the facelifted version, according to a Volkswagen representative.

The new Polo Sedan is something we have yet to see in Malaysia, so let’s go through some of the new details first.

Exterior:

It has not strayed far with the updated styling. The new Polo Sedan has received the revised darkened front headlamps as well as the same overall look of the previous version but not the horizontal mesh lower grille and the chrome line.

The tail-end of the Polo Sedan has not received any additional changes and also retains the same 15-inch alloy rim design as the Polo hatch.

Interior:

The most immediately noticeable change would be the new D-shaped steering wheel where it was previously round. However, the Sedan here does not receive the interior touches we know the hatch version has.

The piano black, leather-wrapped steering wheel also has multi-function buttons to control infotainment parameters. The Radio RCD 320 head unit and overall interior kit has been brought forward from the previous version.

Powertrain:

The 1.6-litre MPI returns on both the Polo hatch and Sedan. The four-cylinder engine delivers 105PS and 153Nm of torque that is mated to an Aisin six speed automatic transmission with manual override via the gear lever.

Now then, on to the newly refreshed Polo hatch. The changes we see here are more substantial compared to the Polo Sedan, although they are limited to cosmetic upgrades inside and out.

The new Polo hatch has received the revised bumper treatment that we have previously covered, its horizontal mesh grille with single chrome line being most apparent differentiator. The lights have also received a refresh to receive a separated and darkened design array. Toward the rear, the tail lamp design of the Polo hatch has also changed slightly and also has dual rear bumper reflectors for added safety. It retains the familiar rim design as well.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
