Perodua Optimistic For Better Q4 Sales, 202,000 Sales Target In Sight

Perodua has recorded total sales of about 151,600 units for the first nine months of 2017, marking a slight 0.5% increase compared to the same period of last year.

Sales slowed down by 3% to 51,900 units for the third quarter of 2017, down from 2016’s third quarter figure of 53,500.

“The larger sales number in the third quarter last year was due to the then newly introduced Perodua Bezza. That impact has normalised now and our sales have benefitted from the model’s introduction,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Datuk Aminar added that the challenges for Q4 2017 include stricter loan approvals and more competition from other car manufacturers.

He also mentioned that all of Perodua’s models were best-sellers in their respective segments.

From January to September this year, the Perodua Axia remained the country’s best selling A-segment hatchback, with 48,700 units sold. As for Perodua’s first ever sedan, a total of 39,800 units were sold, while the Myvi saw 42,000 units sold. The Perodua Alza saw 21,400 units sold.

Elsewhere, Perodua is expected to introduce its new generation Myvi before the year ends; depending on its launch date, the new model may or may not exert significant impact on Perodua's sales volume. The outgoing model's run-out process will, however, inevitably affect the final sales tally.

Another new Perodua model potentially in the works is a new SUV based off the DN Multisix Concept. Indonesian portal Autonetmagz recently posted spyshots of the upcoming Daihatsu Terios undergoing road tests in Jakarta.
