Perodua has sold 99,700 vehicles in the first half of 2017, a slight 2.4% increase over the same period last year. The Perodua Axia was the main contributor to sales.
During the first six months of 2017, all Perodua models were segment leaders. The numbers were:
- Perodua Axia - 32,600 units
- Perodua Bezza - 28,300 units
- Perodua Myvi - 24,000 units
- Perodua Alza - 14,700 units
The company's market share was 35.1% for the first six months of the year, a slight drop from last year's 35.5%. Total industry volume (TIV) stands at 284,200 units. This was due to other aggressive sales campaigns by other car makers plus the introduction of new models.
Perodua's President and CEO Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid Salleh said, "Despite the improvement in sales, we foresee that the tighter lending guideline is still by far our greatest challenge to overcome as most of our customers are first-time buyers."
He added that the company is cautiously optimistic of achieving its sales target of 202,000 units this year, 2.462% less than last year.
As for exports, Perodua shipped 1,854 vehicles to six counties in the first six months of 2017. The company recently introduced the Bezza in Mauritius and Sri Lanka, with 8 and 79 units sold respectively.
In terms of production figures, Perodua produced 96,600 vehicles from January to June and expects to produce a total of 197,000 vehicles by year end. At the moment, Perodua's production capacity is at 70%.
