Prior to the launch of the Proton Ertiga earlier this year, a Suzuki Ertiga was subjected to rigorous ASEAN NCAP testing to determine its level of Adult and Child occupant protection. It managed to score a solid 4 stars for Adult Occupant Protection with 12.39 points. The specification tested was as similar as possible to the production models, with 2 airabgs, ABS, and the seatbelt reminder systems- although without ESC as per the Ertiga on sale. While the passenger has good crash protection, the driver has weak crash protection for the leg and feet area and only adequate for the chest.
For Child Occupancy Protection, the Ertiga scored a lower 33% compliance, resulting in a 2 star rating. This is where the discrepancy in specification shows: the low rating is only a result of the Suzuki Ertiga not coming with ISOFIX, which is standard for the Proton Ertigas sold here. Effectively the Proton Ertiga has been awarded these ratings based on the findings of that Suzuki Ertiga, which may not necessarily reflect the merits of the actual Proton model.
