Proton recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT. Adiperkasa Citra Lestari to develop and manufacture an Indonesian national car.
The MoU serves to enhance business opportunities between both companies of their respective countries in areas relating to the development and manufacturing of the proposed vehicle project.
Proton Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Abdul Harith Abdullah and PT ACL Chief Executive Officer, Mr Abdullah Mahmud Hendropriyono signed the MoU at the Proton Centre of Excellence in Subang Jaya, witnessed by Malaysian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Dato' Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim and Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Herman Prayitno.
Also present at the signing ceremony were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Proton chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Indonesian president Joko Widodo.
A feasibility study on the commercial and technical aspects of the project will be conducted to explore specific areas of cooperation between the two companies including the development plans on localisation activities, purchasing activities, engineering and design activities, logistic services, market studies and other relevant processes relating to the project.
Keep in mind that the MoU is only an expression of the current intention of both parties and is not binding.
Dato’ Harith said, “The collaboration will be good as both nations specifically work together to develop products for the larger market. Furthermore, PROTON, which has the facilities, capabilities and technology know-how in design, development and manufacturing of cars, is the only company in the ASEAN region with a Research & Development (R&D) facility in-house.”
