The fare revision that were reported to be on the books looks to be taking shape, with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) set to announce the new prices for the LRT and Monorail services by the end of this month.
According to Bernama, the commission’s chairman, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, said the cabinet had approved the previously submitted fare review proposal. Discussions between SPAD and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd had been ongoing, with the agreed date for announcement set for October 31st.
"People are keen to get quality service, so there's always the element of cost involved in providing the best service in public transport," he said while speaking to reporters during his visit to the Ampang LRT Line extension project on Thursday.
Both SPAD and Prasarana will ensure the new fares, despite the revision, will not be a burden on the people, added Tan Sri Syed.
During the visit, Prasarana chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam and its president and group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz were also on hand. Regarding the Ampang LRT Line extension, Azmi said that 99.4 percent of the first phase was completed and will begin operations in late October.
"The first phase will see four new stations open to the public, namely Awan Besar, Alam Sutera, Muhibbah and Kinrara BK5 stations," he said.
