Despite it only being operational on a single route direction (Cheras-bound), as Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib revealed to Bernama, it is expect that it will reduce traffic congestion in the country’s most populous city, particularly around Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
"This project has become a necessity to reduce congestion at Jalan Raja Laut and the signalised intersection at Jalan Sultan Ismail," he said.
Datuk Seri Ahmad continued that the Kepong-bound phase of the bridge is still under construction and the full bridge is expected to be completed by mid-2016, approximately three years from when physical work began on the bridge on July 18, 2013.
The fully realized bridge over the Sungai Gombak river will have two dedicated car lanes, one motorcycle lane, and two pedestrian walkways that links Jalan Kuching to the north.
Ahmad Phesal also said that work to improve the sidewalks around Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman were also underway and due to be complete in two months’ time.
