Selangor Government Wants Explanation On LDP, Kesas Toll Hike

As the toll hike takes hold of 17 highways today, one can almost hear the collective grumbles of the many motorists having to shell out the extra cash, one by one. The Selangor government, it seems, isn’t in full agreement with at least some of these increases, writes The Star.

Particularly, they are calling for two state-owned companies to explain the toll hikes concerning the Kesas and Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) highways. They are Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Kumpulan Perangsang (KPS), respectively.

At the moment, it is not confirmed if there will be a toll hike for the Kesas highway. However, the LDP and the SPRINT highway motorists will be paying more starting today.

Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali said PKNS and KPS would be required to brief the the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) today. He said in a posting on Facebook yesterday: "I have ordered PKNS and KPS, who have minor stake in Kesas and LDP, to be present at MTES tomorrow,”

"MTES will look into the feedback from PKNS and KPS. The state government has a clear policy against any toll hike that burdens the rakyat."

You can get a full picture of which tolls have been affected by the hike, and how much they have upped their rates here.

The Selangor state government owns 30 percent of the Kesas highway through PKNS and 20 percent in both the SPRINT highway and the LDP through Kumpulan Perangsang.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
