Shell Launches Its First Select Powered By BingoBox Retail Tech

The future is here. Shell has introduced its first Shell Select retail outlet that is entirely unmanned, using BingoBox Retail Technology. It operates 24 hours a day, and offers cashless payment methods as well. Located on Jalan Tun Razak, the store is a big step forward for the brand and its retail experience for customers. 

To enter the store, customers need to scan a QR code available on the BingoBox app using their mobile devices. From there, customers can select the items that they want and place it on the checkout counter that will automatically scan and provide the total amount. Payment can be made via credit or debit cards, or the BingoBox app, or the Boost e-wallet.

Malaysians can now download the BingoBox mobile application from the App store (for iOS users) or the Google Play Store (for Android users), and stop by the all-new Shell Select powered by BingoBox Retail Technology located at Shell Jalan Tun Razak for snack breaks at anytime of the day, while they enjoy the added convenience of the cashless payment methods.

Does it work? Our colleague, Siew Weng, went down to the store and tried it for himself. There are a few teething issues when it comes to scanning the items, but there is an operator on call that can assist and guide you once you are in the store. With time, hopefully the system becomes a little more fluid and user-friendly, but we are definitely fans of cashless payment as they're a lot safer than carrying cash around.
