Toyota Announces Return To WRC In 2017 With A Yaris

After an 18-year hiatus, Toyota is diving right back into the world of rallying with a new car for the FIA World Rally Championship. The car to take on the competition will be the Toyota Yaris WRC and it will take part in the championship come 2017.

As of now, the car is undergoing a lot of work and testing by Toyota Motorsport GmbH, who is developing the car and its new 1.6-litre direct injection turbocharged four pot claimed to be in line with global race engine stipulations.

This series of photos and small bits of information like the tyre manufacturer supplier, Michelin along with the vehicle’s dimensions – 3,910 mm in length and 1,820 mm in width are all we have to go by for now.

Of course, there’s also the video of the Yaris WRC being put through its paces with the president and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation, Akio Toyoda (aka Morizo) behind the wheel.
