Details are scarce on certain specifics like the performance of the hybrid powertrain including its fuel economy ability and range. However, the powertrain itself is comprised a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor to power the front wheels, with another electric motor powering the rear axle to deliver electronic all-wheel drive. The powertrain provides the RAV4 Hybrid with a 1,650 kg towing capacity.
As mentioned earlier, the new hybrid introduction comes with the announcement of the updated RAV4 with a new frontal design including full LED headlights, a first for the model, a new rear bumper with skid plate trim, and reshaped combination lights at the rear.
Inside, the interior receives more premium materials and is now available with a 4.2-inch TFT multi-info display, 7-inch touchscreen display linked to the infotainment system, and many other practical add-ons like an additional USB port, revised cup holder design, etc.
New technology added to the RAV4 include a 360-degree panoramic view monitor and for safety, Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of systems can be found here with an enhanced Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beam, and Road Sign Assist.
The new RAV4 Hybrid AWD will go on sale in the UK and Europe in early 2016 with the non-hybrid models to be launched there in December this year.
