VIDEO: Helmetless On The Nurburgring With An 8.3-Litre Viper? Prepare To Crash

Can we all agree that wearing a helmet on a racetrack is necessary? Especially in an open-top car? Good. Can we also agree that a Dodge Viper is a bit of a handful? Great. This driver on the Nurburgring doesn’t, or at least forgot to agree.

The silver one we see in the video, a second-generation Viper roadster, has under the hood an enormous 8.3-litre V10 engine which pumps out well over 500hp. And if we’re honest, it’s not known for having the most sophisticated suspension either (with the exception of track-oriented Viper ACR). It’s somewhat of a blunt instrument, which is exciting, but you need to be on your toes.

The driver and a passenger were in the Viper, took a corner, albeit a little too quickly, and the front washes wide. The driver compensates with more steering angle, which starts to come good as the car stumbled onto the grippier curb surfaces. Then it appears that more power was applied, which then swung the car around with nowhere left to go except slamming into the Armco barriers.

Funniest part? All the used plastic water bottles that got ejected from the trunk upon impact. Embarassing. At least the accident occured at a much lower speed than it could have been.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
